Seasonal Drift Organic Cotton Hoodie — Desert Dust
A restrained study of seasonal rhythm, gradual displacement and the adjustments required when familiar cycles no longer arrive as expected.
Seasonal Drift explores how established relationships between people, land and recurring conditions can shift over time. Seven paired linear relationships move from relative alignment towards increasing displacement, recording a gradual change in timing rather than a single moment of disruption.
Made from 100% organic combed ring-spun cotton at a substantial 350 g/m², this heavyweight hoodie provides warmth, durability and a refined, structured silhouette.
A reduced two-part signal appears at the centre chest, while the complete Seasonal Drift study extends vertically across the upper back in muted green linework against the Desert Dust base.

About the garment
A considered heavyweight essential designed with clarity, structure and restraint.
Constructed from 100% organic combed ring-spun cotton, the substantial 350 g/m² fabric provides warmth, durability and a structured feel while maintaining breathability. The dense outer surface creates a clean, refined appearance, while the brushed interior adds softness and everyday comfort.
Designed for longevity, the garment balances function, comfort and a quiet visual presence.
Design & concept
Seasonal Drift examines what happens when familiar environmental rhythms and the human activities organised around them begin to move out of alignment.
The work does not illustrate farmers, crops, landscapes, weather events or recognisable agricultural imagery.
Instead, it considers the quieter systems through which recurring conditions become known over time.
A season returns.
An activity follows.
Timing becomes familiar.
Expectation develops through repetition.
Conditions begin to change.
The expected moment arrives earlier, later or with less certainty.
People observe, adjust and respond from a new position.
Seasonal Drift translates this gradual change into seven paired linear relationships arranged vertically across the upper back.
Within each relationship, the longer line establishes a recurring reference. It suggests a familiar seasonal rhythm learned through repeated experience.
The shorter line records response: the activity, decision or moment of attention connected to that recurring condition.
The earliest relationships remain relatively close, suggesting an established rhythm in which expectation and response still correspond.
As the sequence continues, the shorter lines begin to shift.
The distance between the two parts gradually changes, indicating that an expected relationship is becoming less dependable.
The movement is deliberately restrained.
There is no single dramatic break.
Instead, displacement accumulates across the sequence.
A small difference appears.
The next relationship carries that difference further.
Previous knowledge remains present, but its timing requires renewed attention and adjustment.
The complete composition therefore develops as a quiet progression:
recurrence establishes familiarity,
observation creates expectation,
difference begins to emerge,
timing becomes less certain,
response changes position,
adaptation becomes necessary,
and the relationship continues under altered conditions.
The complete Seasonal Drift composition extends vertically across the upper back beneath the hood.
At the centre chest, the system is reduced to two paired relationships.
The first remains relatively balanced.
The second introduces a slight downward and lateral shift.
This reduced signal preserves the essential transition from familiar alignment towards emerging seasonal displacement without reproducing the complete upper-back study.
Rendered in muted green linework against Desert Dust, both applications remain precise and understated, becoming more legible through closer observation.

SEASONAL DRIFT
Changing Cycles — Timing & Adaptation System
A minimal system examining how familiar cycles become less predictable—and how people respond when established timing begins to shift.
Recurrence establishes rhythm.
Observation builds expectation.
Difference signals change.
Drift alters timing.
Attention guides response.
Adaptation maintains relationship.
The longer lines represent recurring environmental reference points.
Their repetition suggests cycles that remain recognisable even as their timing, duration or reliability begins to change.
The shorter lines register human response.
Their changing positions describe a gradual movement away from established alignment.
The two sides remain connected throughout the sequence, but their relationship becomes increasingly unsettled.
This displacement does not suggest that knowledge has disappeared.
It proposes that knowledge formed through long observation may need to be reconsidered when the conditions supporting it no longer behave as expected.
Adaptation emerges through continued attention.
People compare the present with what came before.
They recognise difference.
They adjust timing, action and expectation.
The composition does not end in perfect realignment.
Instead, it preserves the developing interval between remembered rhythm and present conditions.
Seasonal Drift is a research-led, non-literal interpretation of changing environmental cycles and human adaptation. It does not document a particular location, farming calendar, community or agricultural practice.
An observation of familiar rhythms moving—and the attention required to move with them.

Collection note
Part of Human + Land — The Soil Remembers, a research-led visual archive examining the reciprocal relationship between people and the ground they depend upon.
The collection considers repeated return, seasonal care, adaptation, instability, migration and the residual memory carried by land after established patterns of human presence have changed.
Rather than illustrating agriculture or rural life, the works translate these relationships into restrained systems of continuity, interval, interruption and return.
Seasonal Drift examines how familiar environmental rhythms shape human activity—and how observation and adaptation become necessary when those rhythms begin to move out of alignment.
The work is presented as an informed, non-literal interpretation rather than documentation of a particular place, community, seasonal calendar or agricultural practice.
